How You Can Make A Difference | USVI Hurricane Relief

The Caribbean has had a very active hurricane season to say the least. Not one, but two major category 5 hurricanes within 2 weeks of one another.

The USVI has taken a lot of damage throughout the territory. Despite all the wreckage we have faced, our community is sticking together. We are doing what we can with the resources that we have and what we are given.

All of the help we have been receiving from outside sources (the military, FEMA, donations of any sort) have been and will be a major factor in our recovery. We wish the islands could recover solely on our own, but we are a place that already has limited resources.

So many of our followers and friends have been asking how they can help. There really is something for every budget. Here are a few ways you can help make a difference for the USVI.

Donating

It may be intimidating when there are so many places to donate, but you aren’t sure which ones are legitimate. Here are a few reputable sites you can donate to.

Adopt A Family

Adopt A Family is a really unique program that allows you to send a care package directly to a family in need. They will send you an email with details about the family that you are paired with so you can put together the perfect care package.

Spreading The Word

For those with a limited budget, you too can make a difference! Just getting the word out there about the USVI can help tremendously. Share articles like this that inform others how they can donate or others that share what’s currently going on in the Virgin Islands. Many people may not know the effect both Irma and Maria put on the islands and you could really help enlighten those people about our situation.

We still aren’t sure how long it will take for the islands to make a full recovery, but we are determined to get back on our feet. It’s amazing what we can achieve when we work together!

Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria Update | Tree Limin' Extreme, Zip Line St. Thomas

On September 6th, 2017 the USVI and many other islands were hit by one of the largest storms that the Atlantic has ever seen, Hurricane Irma. She blew through with wind speeds reaching 185 mph and there was damage all along her path.

Less than two weeks have gone by and all of the effected areas are working diligently at restoring their communities, homes, and businesses. It will take time, some places longer than others, but with help and positive thinking, we will prevail.

The USVI has been receiving whatever aid they can and working hard every single day to get back a sense of normalcy. St. John in-particular was hit straight on and that caused major damage throughout the island.

The USVI has a very diverse population, that radiates with optimism. The citizens of our community take priority to any monetary possessions and getting everyone a place to sleep and food and water are essential.

At Tree Limin’ Extreme, we feel very fortunate to have no damage to any of our zip lines or structures. All of the trees are naked and have been stripped clean of their leaves, so our current project is cleaning up organic debris. We will remain closed until further notice, so please follow our Facebook page for any updates: www.facebook.com/ziplinestthomas

We have recently learned about a new hurricane on the horizon, Hurricane Maria. As she makes her approach on a path seemingly similar to Irma, she intensifies. The USVI has made plenty preparations for her upcoming arrival. The spaghetti models show that Maria will make her way to the Virgin Islands today (Tuesday 09/19) and Wednesday 09/20. Our main concern is for the members of the community. There will be shelters for those who need it. Check out the locations below.
