On September 6th, 2017 the USVI and many other islands were hit by one of the largest storms that the Atlantic has ever seen, Hurricane Irma. She blew through with wind speeds reaching 185 mph and there was damage all along her path.
Less than two weeks have gone by and all of the effected areas are working diligently at restoring their communities, homes, and businesses. It will take time, some places longer than others, but with help and positive thinking, we will prevail.
The USVI has been receiving whatever aid they can and working hard every single day to get back a sense of normalcy. St. John in-particular was hit straight on and that caused major damage throughout the island.
More On Irma Aftermath USVI
The USVI has a very diverse population, that radiates with optimism. The citizens of our community take priority to any monetary possessions and getting everyone a place to sleep and food and water are essential.
At Tree Limin’ Extreme, we feel very fortunate to have no damage to any of our zip lines or structures. All of the trees are naked and have been stripped clean of their leaves, so our current project is cleaning up organic debris. We will remain closed until further notice, so please follow our Facebook page for any updates: www.facebook.com/ziplinestthomas
We have recently learned about a new hurricane on the horizon, Hurricane Maria. As she makes her approach on a path seemingly similar to Irma, she intensifies. The USVI has made plenty preparations for her upcoming arrival. The spaghetti models show that Maria will make her way to the Virgin Islands today (Tuesday 09/19) and Wednesday 09/20. Our main concern is for the members of the community. There will be shelters for those who need it. Check out the locations below.

Once Maria passes, the islands will focus all their energy on getting things back to normal. If you would like to help the USVI recover by donating, here are a few reputable sites:
Thank you so much for the info! My heart breaks for the USVI! My family has never visited, we have plans to visit summer of 2018 and God willing we will be there even if you look battered. I will be checking out the sites provided so we can figure out the best way for our family to assist! I can't wait to meet you all in June!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kelly! It has been a wild past few weeks here in the USVI! We hope that you still have the opportunity to visit the summer of 2018. By then, we will have made a lot of progress and the island is beautiful and amazing no matter what. We really appreciate your concern and your family wanting to assist! We will see you next June!
DeleteMy heart is breaking for all the Caribbean islands today and for the past weeks. St. Thomas is like our second home, 10 cruise ship stops and 6 villa rentals for the past few years. We love you all and pray for all your safety. Love from Minnesota
ReplyDeleteIt has been such a difficult time for so many people. The community is staying strong, and we are all working together to get back on our feet. We are so happy that there are people like you out there who love our island as much as we do. We hope to see you back on island soon
